The Centro Astronomico di Locarno is seeking a highly motivated Astronomy Intern to join our remote data team. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to real scientific projects from anywhere, focusing on the collection, analysis, and interpretation of astronomical datasets. This position is 100% remote, offering unparalleled flexibility. As an Astronomy Intern, you will play a crucial role in supporting our research initiatives by assisting with various data-centric tasks. You will develop practical skills in astronomical data reduction, analysis, and visualization, working alongside experienced researchers dedicated to unraveling the mysteries of the universe. Hauptverantwortlichkeiten

• Assist in the acquisition and processing of astronomical images and spectroscopic data.
• Develop and implement scripts for data cleaning, reduction, and calibration using Python.
• Perform initial data analysis and contribute to the interpretation of findings.
• Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation of data workflows and methodologies.
• Collaborate with senior researchers on various projects, providing data support.
• Participate in virtual team meetings and present progress updates on your work.

Erforderliche Fähigkeiten

• Strong interest in astronomy and astrophysics.
• Proficiency in Python programming for data analysis (e.g., NumPy, SciPy, Astropy libraries).
• Familiarity with astronomical data formats (e.g., FITS files).

• Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective remote collaboration.
