Stellenbeschreibung

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Librarian to join the English Section of the University of Hamburg Library. This role involves managing and developing resources relevant to English language studies and international curricula, providing expert reference services, and supporting library users with their research needs. The successful candidate will contribute to the vibrant academic community by ensuring access to high-quality information and fostering a welcoming environment for all patrons.

Hauptverantwortlichkeiten

• Manage and curate the English language collection, including acquisitions, cataloging, and weeding of materials.
• Provide expert reference and research support to students, faculty, and researchers, with a particular focus on English language resources.
• Develop and deliver engaging information literacy instruction and workshops for various user groups.
• Assist users with database searching, interlibrary loan requests, and general library inquiries.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of new library services and technologies.
• Collaborate with academic departments to align library resources with curriculum needs.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of trends in librarianship, information science, and academic publishing.
• Participate in library committees and special projects as assigned.

Erforderliche Fähigkeiten

• Master's degree in Library Science (MLS/MLIS) or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program.
• Fluency in English (native or near-native proficiency).
• Proficiency in German (B2 level or higher).
• Strong knowledge of library cataloging principles and metadata standards.
• Experience with library management systems (LMS) and discovery tools.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

• Experience working in an academic or research library setting.
• Familiarity with digital humanities resources and tools.
• Knowledge of instructional design principles and experience developing online learning materials.
• Experience with collection development in an English language context.
