As a Hybrid Digital Rights Advocate for Tech Policy at Google, you will play a crucial role in advancing Google’s commitment to protecting and promoting human rights in the digital age. You will work within our Public Policy team, engaging with internal product teams, external stakeholders, and policymakers to develop and advocate for policies that uphold user privacy, freedom of expression, and access to information. This hybrid role requires a blend of deep legal and policy expertise, strategic thinking, and strong communication skills to navigate complex digital rights issues across our diverse product portfolio.
Hauptverantwortlichkeiten
- Analyze emerging digital rights issues, legislation, and policy trends, providing expert advice to product and engineering teams.
- Develop and advocate for Google's positions on digital rights and tech policy with policymakers, civil society organizations, and other key stakeholders in Austria and the broader EU region.
- Collaborate with legal, product, engineering, and trust & safety teams to integrate human rights principles into product development and operational practices.
- Conduct human rights impact assessments for new technologies and product features, recommending mitigation strategies.
- Represent Google at conferences, workshops, and multi-stakeholder forums on digital rights and internet governance.
- Draft policy briefs, position papers, and internal guidance documents on complex digital rights matters.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with advocacy groups, academics, and international organizations focused on human rights and technology.
Erforderliche Fähigkeiten
- 5+ years of experience in public policy, legal, or advocacy roles focused on digital rights, human rights, or technology law.
- Deep understanding of international human rights law, privacy frameworks (e.g., GDPR), and freedom of expression principles.
- Proven ability to analyze complex technical and policy issues and translate them into clear, actionable recommendations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and German.
- Demonstrated ability to engage with diverse stakeholders, including government officials, civil society, and internal teams.
- Bachelor's degree in Law, Political Science, International Relations, or a related field.
Bevorzugte Qualifikationen
- Master's degree or Juris Doctor (JD) with a focus on human rights, technology law, or public policy.
- Experience working at a technology company, government agency, or leading NGO on digital rights issues.
- Familiarity with Google's products and services and their policy implications.
- Track record of influencing policy outcomes and building strategic alliances.
- Proficiency in additional European languages.
