Stellenbeschreibung

We are seeking a talented and motivated Hybrid Bioinformatics Developer to join our innovative Genomic Data team in Heidelberg. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and optimizing pipelines and tools for the analysis of complex genomic datasets. You will work closely with bioinformaticians, data scientists, and software engineers to translate cutting-edge research into robust, scalable, and user-friendly solutions that contribute directly to diagnostic advancements. This position requires a strong background in bioinformatics, programming, and an understanding of genomic technologies.

Hauptverantwortlichkeiten

• Design, develop, and maintain robust bioinformatics pipelines for processing, analyzing, and interpreting large-scale genomic data (e.g., WGS, WES, RNA-seq).
• Implement and optimize algorithms for variant calling, annotation, structural variant detection, and gene expression analysis.
• Collaborate with research scientists and clinicians to understand their data analysis needs and translate them into technical specifications.
• Develop and deploy software tools and applications for data visualization and interactive analysis.
• Ensure the quality, reproducibility, and documentation of all developed code and analyses.
• Contribute to the selection and evaluation of new bioinformatics tools and technologies.
• Participate in code reviews, adhere to best practices in software development, and maintain version control.
• Provide technical support and training to internal users on bioinformatics tools and resources.

Erforderliche Fähigkeiten

• Proficiency in Python and/or R for bioinformatics scripting and data analysis.
• Experience with genomic data formats (e.g., BAM, VCF, FASTQ) and common bioinformatics tools (e.g., GATK, samtools, bedtools).
• Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Singularity).
• Strong understanding of molecular biology, genetics, and genomics principles.
• Experience with version control systems, particularly Git.
• Solid problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

• Master's degree or PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Experience with workflow management systems (e.g., Nextflow, Snakemake).
• Knowledge of statistical methods applicable to genomic data analysis.
• Experience with large-scale genomic cohorts or clinical genomic data.
• Familiarity with machine learning techniques applied to biological data.
